For
years we have been manufacturing The Handler Open Chemical Handling
Systems. And while the Handler has become a legend for its
ability to speed up the normally tedious tasks involved in mixing
chemicals and loading sprayers, its one drawback was the inability for
the system to handle extremely dangerous "Class 1" chemicals such as
insecticides. The AccuShield was designed to address this shortcoming.
Since the AccuShield intergrates technologies from a variety of
different manufacturers, bringing these technologies together in a
package designed exclusively for safely and accurately measuring and
loading agricultural chemicals, we have been able to take and improve
on other systems out there. One key piece to the AccuShield is
the Sotera SecuraLink-U Universal Closed Jug System. The SecuraLink has
been recognized by California Department of Pesticide Regulation (CDPR)
as complying with the criteria for a closed system, as legislated in
California (
1).
By adding the SecuraLink to our specially designed, accurately
calibrated, full draining and self-cleaning 2 1/2 gallon measuring tank
we address one shortcoming identified by the CDPR in existing closed
systems (
2). While there are closed systems
available that easily close up the system, reducing exposure risks, the
AccuShield also makes it easy to accurately measure product. You can
put up to a full 2 1/2 gallons into the tank and you can restrict the
amount of product being loaded either by shutting off the integrated
valve on the SecuraLink, or by restricting the amount of product being
drawn from the tank by the venturi.
Because the AccuShield is emptied by a venturi, and concurrenty the
system sits on the pressure side of the pump, fresh water is always
available to clean both the pesticide container and the tank (separate
systems). Because no chemical goes through the pump, there is a
lesser risk of contamination and there are fewer components to clean
after each use. This also prevents any cavitation in the pump caused
when a system sits on the suction side of the pump, with the pump
directly emptying the tank.
The tank is equipped with a 1 way air check valve. This check
valve allows outside air to enter the AccuShield tank, and eliminates
the risk of noxious fumes leaking from the system and affecting the
operator.
Closed systems are a safe way to spray, and with the AccuShield you get
a safe, accurate, effective and simple way to move those chemicals that
you don't necessary want to load in an open system like the Handler.
